Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 June saw Gentoo bring together communities across the City by hosting three Big Lunches.
The Big Lunch is a very simple idea from the Eden Project. The aim is to get as many people as possible across the whole of the UK to have lunch with their neighbours in a simple act of community, friendship and fun.
Since starting in 2009, thousands of Big Lunches have taken place in all kinds of communities across the UK and the best part of a million people get involved each year.
A green themed city wide lunch was held at Crowtree Leisure Centre on Saturday 4 June with around 150 attendees. Competitions and activities ran throughout the day including a sunflower growing competition and a bake off contest.
Gemma Carrick, Events and Activities Co-ordinator at Gentoo said: “The Big Green Lunch had a fantastic turnout last year, so we wanted to continue it’s success again this year. It is great to see such a variety of our customers, young and old come together and join in with the fun.
“Everyone who came along really enjoyed the day and the atmosphere at the event was brilliant.”
Sunday 5 June also saw events at Pennywell’s Academy 360 and Austin House Family Centre in Southwick. Face painting, bouncy castles, Pro-Motiv8 Soccer and a selection of other activities kept everyone entertained on the day.
